Getting Involved

PRACTICAL CONSERVATION WORK

Change things for the better by getting involved in practical work which helps to create new habitats, sympathetically manage existing ones or promote the enjoyment of Bromley's green and natural spaces. You can do this yourself at home, on your landholding, in your school or at your work place, with the help of friends, family and work colleagues. But , if you want to get involved with specific activities being run by a local organisation, check out workdays that are coming up, below. You will develop your practical skills and learn more about biodiversity at the same time!

Dates for the diary


Saturday 16th April 2011 - Family Day at Scadbury Park

10am. Meet at the Tree Centre. Join the Friends of Sacdbury Park doing light conservation work either clearing unwanted growth around young oaks in 'The Larches' or bramble bashing in 'Fallen Oak Meadow'

Saturday 20th August 2011 - Family Day at Scadbury Park

10am. Meet at Old Perry St. car park, Chislehurst. Join the Friends of Scadbury Park doing light conservation work. Work will involved 'ride management' along the Easy Access Trail finishing with a snack (not provided) in the Picnic Areas.

Sat 26th March - Bamboo and Bean Poles

10.30am Meet by Keston middle pond, Fishponds Road, Keston. Spring is coming! Help us to harvest bamboo poles for your garden. Led by BCP. Ages 16 and upwards. Please wear suitable clothing and footwear. Gloves and tools provided.


Sun 27th March - Wellies and Weeding

10.00am. Meet at Baston Road car park, Hayes. Come and help us as we weed out bracken, gorse and birch from one of the newly scraped heather restoration patches on Hayes Common. Ages 16 and upwards. Please wear suitable clothing and footwear. Gloves and tools provided.


Countryside & Parks Service Work Programme on Private Land - Ongoing

Regular Wednesday and Thursday practical work is undertaken by volunteers working with Bromley's Countryside Projects Officer throughout the year. Management and creation of habitats and work on access routes is undertaken.

Countryside & Parks Service's Work with Friends Groups on Local Nature Reserve & Commons

Countryside Officers based at High Elms Country Park provide direct support for wildlife conservation work undertaken by the Friends of Jubilee Country Park, Friends of Hayes Common, Friends of Keston Common, Friends of Darrick Wood, High Elms Country Park Volunteer Ranger Service.

Friends Groups Across the Borough

A number of Friends groups have been established for parks within the Borough. Three Parks Partnership Officers support the work of these groups: Pherenice Worsey-Buck, Penny Read and Stephen Tickner.
