Action for Habitats

Habitats are places where wildlife or 'biodiversity' can seek shelter, food and secure space for breeding. There are a wide range of habitats in the London Borough of Bromley - from back gardens in the more urban parts of the Borough to the more rural chalk downland to the south. These habitats support an amazing variety of species and often require sensitive management. Sometimes, there is opportunity to create new habitats, which can help species to survive locally too.

What are the priority habitats in Bromley? These are:
Woodland
Hedgerows
Grassland (Chalk, Neutral and Acid)
Lowland Heath and Mire
Wetland
Farmland
Urban Habitats

What action can we all take to help conserve these habitats? 7 Habitat Action Plans (HAPs) have been devised as part of the BBAP. These include information about value of these habitats and how they are doing. Practical action to help these habitats over the next three years is included in each HAP.

Click on the list above to read highlights of each plan and special features.
