Transport for London
TfL considers the walking environment to be a key aspect of quality of life for those who visit, live and work in London. As part of its role, TfL promotes 'Safer Routes to Schools' projects which aim to: encourage more people to walk and cycle to school safely; improve road safety and reduce child casualties; improve children's health and development; reduce traffic congestion and pollution. Visit www.tfl.gov.uk to find out more.

Road Safety Borough-wide
To find out more about setting up or participating with an existing Walking Bus, the Safer Routes to School initiative, School Travel Plan development and Road Safety education locally, visit www.bromley.gov.uk or email road.safety@bromley.gov.uk

Network of Walking Buses
Walking Buses are a way of encouraging students to walk to school in a safe environment. Participants walk in a crocodile fashion to and from school along a suitable route, wearing reflective waistcoats and guided by police-checked parents and carers acting as 'drivers' and 'conductors'. Check out on line games and links to other useful websites at www.walkingbus.com

Bromley's Biodiversity
The London Borough of Bromley has a richness of species in both its urban and rural areas. If you would like to find out more about habitats and species in the Borough, places to visit and ways in which you can help biodiversity locally, visit www.bromleybiodiversity.co.uk - the place for local people on local wildlife.

The SUN Project
SUN (short for Sustainable Urban Networks for Green Spaces) is funded by the EU LIFE Environment Programme. As one of seven partners, the London Borough of Bromley has been looking at ways of further engaging the public in helping wildlife or 'biodiversity'. One aspect of the project is to promote 'green corridors'. These are networks of green spaces, which can provide food, shelter and nesting places for plants and animals naturally occurring in an area. The 'Beck Corridor' is a loosely defined area in the vicinity of The Beck river, chosen to bring attention to the value of green spaces in any locality. To find out more about the SUN Project, visit www.bromleybiodiversity.co.uk

Walking with Beetles File of Educational Activities
Covering National Curriculum Topics at Key Stages 1-3, this File aims to promote walking, sustainable transport and biodiversity. Lesson plans and worksheets have been devised and Teacher's Notes written, using the Beck Corridor as a case study. The File is particularly relevant to schools in Beckenham and the remainder of the London Borough of Bromley, but may also be of value to schools outside of the Borough too.

Beck Corridor Trail
This route promotes healthy walking through green spaces close to Beckenham and West Wickham. It joins up wth three of London's strategic walking routes - the Green Chain Walk, the Capital Ring and the London Outer Orbital Path (LOOP). The Trail also promotes the use of public transport networks. For more information email conservation@bromley.gov.uk
