Getting Involved

Walks, talks, displays and special events are organised by a number of groups and organisations in the Borough. A number of these contribute to the BBAP. Check out the information below to find out what's going on! If you would like us to promote a biodiversity event you are doing, email conservation@bromley.gov.uk. Thurs 24th March - A Stroll around Southborough.

10.00am. Meet at Thornet Wood car park, Thornet Wood Road, Bickley. Enjoy a guided walk following a circular route through Jubilee Country Park and Sparrow Wood. Led by BCS. Distance 2-3 miles, Grade 2. Charge: Adults £1.60, Child & 60+ £1.00.

Thursday 18th August 2011 - Bat Walk at Scadbury Park

7.45pm. Meet at Old Perry St. car park. Join the Friends of Scadbury Park for an evening walk to the moated Manor to see what bats are about. Bring a torch. Distance 1 mile.

Mon 28th March - Lunchtime Talk: Moths of Bromley’s LNR’s

2.00pm. Meet at BEECHE, High Elms Country Park. Hear all about the variety and ecology of the different moths that make their homes in some of Bromley’s green and open spaces, with a local expert. Why not pop in to the Green Roof café before hand to grab some lunch? Charge: £2.00 per person.

Tues 29th March - Lemon Drop Encounters

1.30pm. Meet at Cudham Recreation Ground. Enjoy the primroses and early cowslips of the Cudham Valley. Distance:1-2 miles, Grade: 2 Charge: Adults £1.60, Child & 60+ £1.00.


Sunday 3rd April 2011 - Wildlife Ponds in Spring

10.30am. Meet at Blackbrook Lane car park, Jubilee Country Park. Enjoy a springtime walk aroudn Jubilee Country Park and take a closer look at the site's wetland habitat and maybe see some amphibian species up close. Distance 2 miles, Grade 2, Charge: Adults £1.75, Child and 60+ £1.10

Sunday 10th April 2011 - Heron Watch

11am-4pm. Join in the fun at the main lake, Kelsey Park, Beckenahm, where you can watch Grey Herons adn their chicks nesting on the island. Look through telescpes with local RSPB members and Friends of Kelsey Park.

10am. Meet at the main car park off High Elms Road, Farnborough. Join us for a stroll around the woodland looking for signs of Spring. Distance 2 miles. Grade 2. Charge: Adults £1.75, Child & 60+ £1.10

Saturday 30th April & Sunday 1st May National Beanpole Week

11am-4pm Come to BEECHE, High Elms Country Park, to buy bamboo bean poles for your garden, sustainably sourced from Bromleyl's countryside sites. Bunches of 10 for £2.


Sunday 1st May 2011 - Breakfast with the Birds

6am. Meet at Cuckoo Wood car park, off High Elms Road. learn more about bird songs and calls on this gentle stroll around High Elms as part of 'International Dawn Chorus Day'. Monday 2nd May 2011 - Wildflower Pots

11am-3pm. Meet at BEECHE, High Elms Country Park. Come along and apint your own wildflower pot, fill it with compost and a wildflower. This is a drop in event with sessions starting at 11am, 12 noon, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm. Numbers will be limited on each session. Charge £3 per pot.

9am. Meet at the swimming pool entrance to Darrick Wood, off Lovibonds Road. Join the Friends of Darrick Wood for a walk around this Local Nature Reserve to see what feathery creatures live there. Distance 2 miles.

9.30am. Meet at Heathfield Road car park, Keston. Join the Orpington Field Club during the morning for a look at the area in Spring. Distance 2 miles. No dogs please.


Sunday 29th May 2011 - Tree Trail

11am-3pm. Drop in to BEECHE anytime to pick up your self led tail around the park. Learn about all the different trees we have at High Elms and some of the myths surroudning them. Try your hand at bark rubbing or drawinas you go! Charge £2.25 per sheet

Monday 30th May 2011 - Family Rambling Day in the Woods

11am. Meet by the main car park, High Elms Country Park. Get active with the whole family on Bank Holiday Monday. There will be a choice of two routes to take, a 4 mile countryside walk or a 2 mile stroll staying in High Elms. Led by BCS. Charge Adults £1.75, Child & 60+ £1.10.

7.30pm. Meet at teh Garden Room , St. Augustine's Church, Southborough Lane, Bickley. Join The Friends of Jubilee Country Park for an illustrated talk about the birds, butterflies, amammas and flowers found in local woodlands. Led by John Beckham. Refreshments provided. Donations welcome.

11am-12.30pm. Meet at the picnic area, Jubilee Country Park. How many meadow minibeasts do you know?
